Condemnation of a property on Adams St. and receiving a subdivision into city maintenance topped the agenda of a short meeting the Grenada City Council on Thursday.
The council moved its meeting from March 11 because several councilmen planned to go out of town.
At the recommendation of Code Compliance Officer Sonny Ammons, the council voted unanimously to condemn a property at 945 Adams St.
According to tax rolls, the property belongs to Thomas D. Ernest.
“It’s just an old, decrepit property,” said Mayor Billy Collins after the meeting.
Ward Four Councilman the Rev. Ernest Hargrove made the motion to condemn the property, seconded by Ward Three Councilman Lewis Johnson.

New maintenance
The roads that wind through a small subdivision in south Grenada will officially come under city maintenance, following a unanimous vote of the council.
The subdivision is located near the intersection of Hwy. 51 and Jackson Ave. Ext.
“When a contractor builds a subdivision, he usually hands it over to the city,” said Collins. For some reason, he said, the city never officially accepted the subdivision.
“For example, in the past, if we needed to go in there and fix a pothole, we haven’t officially had the authorization to do so,” said Collins. “Now, we do.”
Ward Seven Councilman Ronnie Merriman, in whose ward the subdivision is located, made the motion for the city to officially take the roads under city maintenance, seconded by Johnson.
