A Grenada police officer who also serves as Vaiden’s chief of police was back on both jobs Thursday, even though he was arrested and charged with arson and conspiracy to commit arson.
Chief Russell Carver with the Grenada Police Department said that Patrolman Allen Vance, 47, turned himself in to authorities at the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning.
Vance has served as chief of the Vaiden department since 2010.
According to Carver, Vance is charged with one count of arson and one count of conspiracy to commit arson to an insured property. Sources said the charges involved a vehicle. Vaiden Mayor Melvin Hawthorne said he believed the charges originated in Grenada County, hence that’s where Vance turned himself in.
Vance was released on $30,000 bond Wednesday, Carver said.
