Grenada’s top firefighter is hanging up his gear after more than 30 years on the job.
Chief Herman Simpson said he’ll retire in May, capping a career that saw unprecedented growth and accomplishment in the Grenada Fire Department.
“I’m not leaving town. Grenada will still be my home. I’m simply moving on to other things,” said Simpson, 47, who has held the top spot on the ladder for seven years.
Simpson began his career with the fire department after finishing boot camp with the Army National Guard. He worked his way up the ranks, holding several part-time jobs along the way. He worked for the ambulance service. He even worked at a sawmill and in air-conditioning and refrigeration.
