INDIANOLA -  Basketball coaches want their teams to be playing their best ball of the season down the stretch and in the postseason.
That is just what the Kirk Raiders are doing.
Spencer Segrest’s crew finished the regular season as the fourth-seeded team in District 1-AA. Most people thought that’s where they would be in the tournament.
The Raiders proved the skeptics wrong. After beating Carroll 61-40, the Raiders lost a 79-56 decision to Marshall in the semifinals. That setback sent them to the consolation round against North Delta.
On the girls’ side, the Raiderettes found the going tough losing both their games. Kirk dropped a 54-49 decision against Indianola in the semifinals. A day later, they had a lead against Carroll only to lose a 51-47 decision.
