The visitors’ center at Grenada Lake is in danger of closing, and the chamber of commerce needs help to keep it open.
“This will be a great loss if we’re forced to close it, because it adds so much to the experience of enjoying our great lake,” said Dolly Marascalco, president of the Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce and project champion for the Lake.
Due to budget cuts, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which staffs the center, is running out of money to keep a ranger on duty at the desk.
Volunteers Needed
Marascalco has a plan.
“I want to encourage civic groups, clubs and other such organizations to volunteer,” she said.
The volunteer commitment wouldn’t be without its perks.
“The group could sell souvenirs and drinks and otherwise make money as well as promote their organization,’ said Marascalco.
There’s also another advantage, according to Marascalco. Those volunteering would be covered by governmental health insurance while on the premises.
