Grenada police have issued a warrant in connection with the shooting of a local pastor.
According to Capt. George Douglas, police are searching for a man he identified as Joe Albert Holloway Jr., 19.
Holloway is accused of shooting the Rev. Perry L. Montgomery in the pastor's home on Harvey street around 3:30 p.m. Monday. Montgomery was shot four times with a small caliber handgun.
According to police, Holloway previously visited Montgomery asking for food. Montgomery told police that he recognized Holloway and let him into his home. Once inside, Holloway allegedly brandished a gun and demanded money. When Montgomery refused to give him money, Holloway allegedly shot the pastor, Douglas said.
Holloway fled the scene on foot and is still at large, according to Douglas.
Montgomery did not call 911 or contact Grenada police initially but had a friend drive him to the hospital in Eupora. Montgomery was transported from Eupora to Tupelo where he remained in stable condition Thursday, Douglas said.
According to Douglas, Holloway was imprisoned in the Grenada County Jail as recently as October. He was jailed on a contempt of court charge, although Douglas didn’t know the charge on which Holloway initially appeared in court.
