The Grenada Economic Development Foundation will provide an access road in hopes of attracting more businesses to the Industrial Park.
The EDD recently acquired 6.5 acres at the intersection of Hwy. 7 and Interstate 55.
The plan is to carve a road, leading south into the industrial park, that will provide direct access to several parcels with interstate visibility.
“The Interstate Business and Technology Park is the largest industrial property in this region of the state, and this access road will make it even more attractive for industrial prospects,” said EDD Executive Director Palo Diaz.
The industrial park encompasses more than 1,100 acres with interstate, rail and highway access. Last year the EDD developed engineering plans to pave the entry road on the southern end of the property and is now working on plans to bring water and sewer lines into the property.
Officials hope the plan will continue Grenada’s recent good news on jobs.
Unemployment in the county recently reached its lowest mark in three years, making Diaz optimistic about the county’s future.
“It was always understood that the recession would have a significant impact in our community, but the EDD’s resolve to confront the challenge never weakened,” said Diaz.
Unemployment in Grenada County dropped 2.3 percent last month, the lowest its been since the recession had its biggest impact on the local economy in 2010. In February of that year more than 14 percent of Grenadians were out of work.
