The family of home-grown businesses in the Lake City will soon be minus one, as a long-time furniture store plans to close its doors.
“We’ve been blessed to be in business so long, and we want to thank all our employees and our customers,” said Wesley Arnold,  owner of Arnold’s Furniture.
Arnold’s father, John, started the business in 1963.
John Arnold got his start working as a grocer, but had to find work that got him off his feet due to health reasons. Arnold made friends with Joe Walton, who owned a furniture store downtown, and for a while the two operated A and W furniture.
In 1963 John Arnold purchased an old paint store on Commerce St. and converted it into a furniture store.
Older Grenadians may remember the “Good Time Hour,” which featured country music, that Arnold broadcast from the store in the 1960s and 70s.
“We’ve been growing ever since,” said Arnold, who began working in the store as a teenager, alongside his siblings.
“We were so old-fashioned, but it was a good thing. The whole family helped out,” said Arnold.
