A student at Grenada Middle School could face expulsion and after being caught with a handgun at school.
According to Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault, a male student was caught with a gun Wednesday afternoon.
The student, whose name cannot be released because he is a minor, was found in possession of the weapon in the late afternoon, Daigneault said.
School sources said the handgun was loaded, but no shots were fired and no one was hurt.
School policy calls for the student to be expelled, according to Director of Students Tim Wilder, but it’s not immediately clear what the student’s fate will be.
“It’s in the court system now,” said Wilder.
“The student is entitled to due process,” said Daigneault. “We turned this matter over to police before we were actually able to conduct a full investigation ourselves,” he said.
Daigneault added, “Our principals and transportation director acted in a very professional manner. They did a marvelous job in quickly evaluating the situation and dealing with it.”
