It was cold but at least it wasn’t raining as the Grenada Christmas parade made it’s way through downtown Tuesday.
The parade, originally scheduled for Dec. 4, was postponed twice due to inclement weather.
The falling crack of the tom, the thunder of the bass and the soaring roar of the brass rang throughout downtown as the Grenada High School Band marched in perfect step.
Thequavion Hudson, 2, and family secured a spot along the route early. He stood like a little patriot, waving his American flag, his eyes wide in expectation as the first notes from the band rang out in the distance.
Moe the Camel sauntered up and down the parade route, and just outside City Hall he made friends with 11-year-old Cody Jeffords, five-year-old twins Addison and Amory Bloodworth and nine-year-old Karlie Bloodworth.
Beauty queens smiled prettily from convertibles and the girls from the Grenada color guard spun and danced like dervishes.
Church floats rolled by with living recreations of the birth of Christ.
First place in floats for schools went to Grenada High School. First place in small business went to Bull Bottom Farms. First place in civic organizations went to Sarah’s Smile, and first place in best overall went the Grenada Jr. Auxiliary. The director’s pick went to Grenada Leadership.
“Merry Christmas, ho, ho, ho,” Santa exclaimed as he brought up the rear of the parade. When he passed, Grenadians dispersed throughout downtown, all bundled up, smiling cheerfully at one another.
