| Evacuees from Hurricane Katrina who have not applied for benefits from the Federal Emergency Management Agency are encouraged to do so. Marshall McKnight, a public information officer for FEMA, said if there are people in Grenada or in surrounding areas who believe they may be eligible, they should register, McKnight said. It is likely that some have not registered with FEMA for benefits, he said. "That's why we're out here, getting the message out," he said. "People need to call. Anyone who thinks they may be eligible should register. It means help for families and homeowners. It can also mean help for business owners." When you call, please have the following information: Social Security Number (including spouse) Private Insurance information, if available Address and zip code of the damaged property Directions to the damaged home or property Daytime telephone number |
