Weekly Report
Student Awards Luncheon

Congratulations to everyone who received an award at last week's end of the school year Student Awards Luncheon.

Notice we did not congratulate the "winners" because we consider every student and teacher in both our school systems a winner, and these who received awards are merely representatives of the entire group.

The following are the recipients of the overall award for the year: Brad Garrett, Community Service, Grenada High School; Elizabeth Smith, Community Service, Kirk Academy; Jessica Chandler, Academic Improvement, Kirk Academy; Albert Salley, Academic Improvement, Grenada High School; Kimberly Cooley, Outstanding Vo-Tech Student, Grenada Vocational Technical School; and Patricia Sledge, Perseverance Award, Tie Plant School. These students all received $100 savings bonds.

Many thanks to Bob White at Spencer's Dairy Cream for providing gift certificates to our students!

Watch next week's column for the Junior High awards and Educator of the Year awards.

Business After 5:00

If you are reading this Tuesday, May 30 and it is not yet 6:30 p.m., you still have time to get down to Business After 5:00!

This is a come and go affair designed for our Chamber members to have a chance to get to know and visit with each other in an environment that is more relaxed than the usual business setting.

All 121 of you new members are urged to come network with us. Your Chamber member recruiter should contact you and make sure you have an extra special invitation. Bring plenty of business cards to exchange with all those new contacts you will make.

Come on down to Phillip Heard's BancorpSouth bank downtown on Main Street. We are gathering there from 5:01 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and our group won't be complete without you!

Retailers Listen Up

OK all you retailers! This is a meeting designed just for you! On Thursday, June 1 at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn, the Chamber is sponsoring a meeting to invite and inform you on the Mississippi Market.

The Market will be held in August, and all retailers are encouraged and urged to attend this great market.

This is strictly a wholesale market - just for buyers - and is not designed for the general public to attend. You must be a certified, card-carrying buyer to get in!

Also invited to attend on Thursday is anyone who might have a Mississippi product or service to promote at this market. We know there are a lot of you out there making candles, potpourri, pillows, monogramming, etc.

This meeting is your chance also to hook up with a marketing tool for your product! Providers of Mississippi services are also invited to attend!

Please make every effort to come to this meeting on June 1 to get information and applications on the Mississippi Market. You do not have to be a Chamber member to attend.

Thunder on Water

The Chamber again will be setting up a Hospitality Tent at Thunder on Water, staffed by our ever-able and ready-to-serve Ambassadors Club!

If you are an Ambassador and have not yet signed up for your favorite time slot, please give us a call at 225-2571 so we can get your space reserved.

Don't let somebody else grab your favorite time spot! Hurry!

Wallpaper for Less

Congratulations to Jean Noland at Jean's Decorative Touch Wallpaper for Less for her decision to join the Chamber of Commerce. I have never been in her shop and come out empty handed! She has not only wonderful wall coverings, but also paint to match and many terrific unusual decorative items for your home! She is a long time enthusiastic supporter of Grenada, so stop by and visit with her on the south side of Green Shopping Center, corner of Commerce and Monroe Street, or give her a call at 226-4155.

Spot Cash

If you are a long time Grenadian, I challenge you to say "Spot Cash" without following it with "Tire and Appliances!" They just go together! Bo Morgan hopes that you will NEVER be able to think tires and appliances without saying Spot Cash first! Bo carries refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, TVs, air conditioners, ranges, microwaves, dishwashers, wood burning stoves, lawnmowers and bicycles! If Bo ain't got it, you don't need it! Go by and see him at the other corner of Monroe and Commerce Street, across from Wallpaper for Less, or give him a call at 226-3535.

Thought for the Day

The older you get the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat are really good friends.
