Board Meeting

The Chamber's Board of Directors will meet at 7:30 a.m. this Thursday, July 27 at The Daily Sentinel Star. We hope that all you Directors will make a special effort to be present as we continue to make changes and fine tune our economic and community development efforts for Grenada.

Minority Business

The Minority Business Conference Task Force will meet on Thursday, August 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the Chamber office. We are still accepting committee members so please give us a call and come help!

Civic Pride

The Civic Pride Committee will meet at its regular monthly meeting time, Monday, August 7 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chamber. Several items are on the agenda, including time to discuss plans for new projects.

Grenada Honda

Grenada Honda and Marine joined the Chamber during our most recent membership drive. Hal Martin's business is booming up here on "the hill" where he sells and services Honda motorcycles, ATV's and scooters. Anything you need (or maybe just want) in a cycle or scooter, Hal can fix you up with it! In the extremely unlike event that you ever need service, he can also take care of that for you! Go by and see him at 1301-B Sunset Drive or give him a call at 226-8881.

Cornerstones Bookstore

Cornerstones Christian Bookstore and More is also a new member of the Chamber. It was formerly owned by James Turner and is now owned by his mother, Dot Turner. The Turners are fine Grenada citizens and are active on many fronts. Cornerstones carries a full selection of Bibles and other wonderful Christian literature, as well as a wide array of Christian based merchandise - jewelry, tote bags, bookmarks, etc. They have a tremendous selection of children's items as well. Go by the store at 1321-M Sunset Drive or call them at 229-9777 to check on availability of a particular item.

Churches

Several area churches joined during our recent drive to take advantage of the marketing capabilities of the Chamber. We send out hundreds of Newcomer's Packets each year and include information about our members in these packets. Our church Chamber members will now be included in that info so that people moving into town will have an opportunity to select the church of their choice even before moving into town.

Visitors in our community also stop by and pick up facts on our churches so that they may be a part of our worship experiences also.

We are pleased to have this input from our religious community to help us as we continue to plan ways to increase the quality of life and standard of living of Grenada.

First Methodist

The First United Methodist Church is one of our new church members. Tom Hawks is the pastor at "First Church" and is very ably assisted by J. C. Hubbard as Minister of Evangelism and Derry Brunt as Music Director. We were extremely fortunate to have Brother Tom assigned here to follow in the footsteps of Jack Smith. There are not many that could fill Brother Jack's shoes, but Reverend Hawks has certainly done that. First Church is located downtown at 161 South Line Street, or you can give Sarah a call at 226-3148 - she can handle anything at all that you need! First Methodist is involved on many levels with many different programs. Stop by and find out about them!

First Baptist

First Baptist Church, the other "First Church," is a Chamber member, too. Dr. Tim Williams is pastor there and Huey Dedmon is the Minister of Music. Brother Tim is doing a fine job leading their church and Brother Huey is an incredible asset to the music program there as well as being an asset to Grenada in general. Brother Tim spoke to our Lions Club recently and did a fine job of inspiring the Lions, and believe me if he can do something with the Lions, he can help anybody! (Love you, Lions!) Go by and worship with a fine group of people at 741 South Line Street, or give Brother Tim a call at 226-3661 to find out about any of the many programs they are involved with.

McKay Auto Mart

McKay Auto Mart "joined" the Chamber during our recent drive, also. Actually, Earl McKay has been a Chamber member for approximately one thousand years, but through a Y2K computer fluke of some sort, his account for some reason disappeared out of our computer.

When this was discovered, Earl claimed his own account as his first new membership "sold" during his time on the Membership Drive call-a-thon. Since Earl has been a wonderful active member throughout the years, and also since he is on the Board of Directors and helps sign our paychecks, nobody challenged him on this and let him count signing up himself toward receiving his "IDIDIT" button!

Run on down to McKay Auto Mart and pick yourself up one of their fine new or pre-owned vehicles. They have a fine selection of Buick, Cadillac, Pontiac, GMC cars, trucks and SUV's as well as a huge assortment of pre-owned vehicles. Earl's daughter Carolyn and son-in-law Tom Taylor are doing a great job with this fine old established Grenada business, so go by and see them at 3300 South Commerce Street or give them a call at 226-1775.

Congratulations

And speaking of "fine Grenada businesses...wonderful active member...and Board of Director member" - brings up WACO Construction Company owner Wayne Roberts!

We recently received notice that WACO Construction Company has for three continuous years, been lost-time accident free. They have a tremendous education program and reward system in place that encourages this great record. Congratulations Wayne, Patricia and all your great employees!

Thought for the Day

...overheard after a recent Chamber meeting... "I finally got my head together, now my body is falling apart."
