Long-time city employee Charles 'JoJo' Weathers takes over today as interim city manager.
At a special meeting on March 24, the Grenada mayor and city council picked Weathers for the job.
He will fill the vacancy of Nelson Byrd, who retired March 31.
Once the March 24 meeting began, the council went directly into executive session. When the board returned, it announced that Weathers was unanimously chosen as interim city manager.
"I consider Jo Jo a good man and an asset to the city for this period of time," said Ward Six Councilman George Mullen.
This position will last for a time period of no more than 90 days.
"I feel like the city will be in good hands for this period of time. Mr. Weathers has a good relationship with the city employees and the community," said Ward One Councilwoman Mary Duncan Hall.
However the issue concerning the leadership in the police department was not discussed.
"The matter in reference to leadership in the police department was just a discussion and that discussion did not continue in today's meeting," said Mayor Dianna Freelon-Foster.
It is unclear at this time if the issue of police leadership will be an ongoing issue for the Mayor and the City Council.
