The Grenada School Board on Tuesday honored the Parent of the Year for 2014.
The board recognized Sandra Grass for her outstanding contributions to the district.
“I’m honored to receive this award,” said Grass. “I heard once that it takes a village to raise a child, and I believe that.”
One of Grass’s daughters graduated from Grenada High School in 2009. The other is a senior.
Grass is a member of the booster clubs for Grenada baseball, softball, football and basketball as well as for the cheerleading squad.
As a lifelong member of the Junior Auxiliary, Grass helped supply safety materials and information to the district and has worked with the Crown Club and the Clothing Room.
“We are very blessed to live in a community where so many are involved with the growth and education of our children,” said Grass. “So many great parents are involved with booster clubs, after school programs, community events, fundraisers and other events. To all the employees of the Grenada School District, a very heartfelt thank you for the countless hours in the classroom, working athletic events, keeping our children safe and especially dealing with us parents. May God continue to bless our village.”
Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault spoke glowingly of Grass.
“She’s there all the time, cheering, organizing, encouraging and generally boosting our kids in many different endeavors,” said Daigneault. “She’s a shining example of the type of involved, concerned parents, willing to give their time, that we depend upon in our district in our pursuit of excellence.”
